Witching Chronicles: Exploring TARLUNG’s Axis Mundi

I didn’t expect to get into a sludge album this year, but Axis Mundi really hit me. It’s slow, heavy, and feels like it’s pressing down on you.

After five years, TARLUNG could have played it safe. Instead, the riffs are thick and jagged, the drums mostly slow but sometimes exploding out of nowhere. The vocals aren’t polished, but they feel real – raw and lived-in.

Some tracks stand out, like Axis Mundi and Static Noise, but the album works best as a whole. Parts drag, some sections repeat, but it keeps you paying attention.

The themes are subtle. The idea of the world’s center comes through in quiet moments before the heavy parts hit. It feels big and personal at the same time.

Axis Mundi is exhausting, heavy, and oddly intimate. It sticks with you long after you’ve listened!
