The Origin & Identity:
How did you all come together as a band, and when did it feel real?
– We used to be in other bands together in the past. It felt real when we opened for the Heavy Metal band Raven. Note: Metallica opened for Raven in 1983, that’s as close as we will ever get to Metallica.
Where did your band name come from, and why does it feel like you?
– I had a speaking part on the finding Bigfoot TV show on Animal Planet. We live in the Sasquatch Triangle part of Ohio due to the amount of Bigfoot sightings. That has a lot to do with the name. Plus we all love Black Sabbath.
Did you have a clear vision for your sound from the start, or did it develop naturally?
– We evolved from a Punk band to slower hard rock metal due to age.
What should listeners know about your newest album?
– Sighting ep – each member got to do their own song, creating a different vibe and unique sound for each song.
Influences & Creative Process:
Who or what has shaped your sound in ways people might not expect?
– I went to art school in Pittsburgh, hung out with mostly Punk Rock bands. Submachine used to practice at my apartment, one time I wasnât home so they broke in and practiced. That is Pittsburgh Punk.
When creating a song, do you follow a routine or mix it up each time?
– Mix it up with new riffs and throw on some made up vocals at first. Then try to work on each part at practice.
Are there moods, riffs, or ideas you find yourself returning to?
– Sasquatch Cryptic themes
How do you make writing decisions â together or does someone usually lead?
– I write down some ideas then we work on it.
Musical Technique / Composition:
When layering sounds, do you focus more on tone or on mood?
– Focus on getting it done and moving on to the next song. Dead Man Studios cleans up the tone and boosts the sound.
Do you use alternate tunings, odd meters, or unusual chords to shape your sound?
– Some chords are made up. Half our set is tuned down then we switch to standard.
How much of your arrangements come from improvisation versus planning?
– I like Improv, like the TV show whoâs line is it anyway. Sometimes you capture magic that can’t be explained.
Stories & Experiences:
Whatâs one moment that truly captures what this band is about?
– When I crashed my car and had to go to Rehab. But it was physical therapy rehab not drugs. My car fell into road construction but was towed out un damaged. Another time our vehicle broke down on the side of the road one of the other bands(Sohi) came back and picked us up, we still made the show and played.
Does playing live bring out a different side of your music?
– It brings out the Beast of Legend and Lore. We have a guy Anthony dressed in a Bigfoot Costume and Mike dressed as a Hemp Wizard, he makes beard oil out of hemp (hempwizard.net) on stage for our shows. It creates a buzz for the experience. We have highs and lows – opened for Psychostick sold out show (600 people) then dive bars for 10 people.
I fell off the stage once and fell on a rapper guy. He was ok and I gave apologies. He thought i was having a heart attack. Later that night we got some merch robbed. This was the same night my car wrecked, what a terrible night but that’s Rock n Roll.
Whatâs the quirkiest experiment youâve done in the studio?
– Sat on the massage chair in the studio for pain relief.
Has a fan ever done or said something that made you see your music differently?
– It is cool when you get asked to sign CDs.
Current Inspirations & Recommendations:
Any up-and-coming musicians you think deserve more attention?
– I recommend not trying to copy any other band, create your own sound. Be original. Music has no rules.
Vision & Reflection:
Where do you see your sound heading next? Any experiments youâre itching to try?
– We always strive to create new catchy songs that Rock.
Which track do you feel captures your band best, and whatâs the story behind it?
– The song Looking for a Bigfoot. Inspired by the time me and Ted found a Sasquatch foot print at Salt Fork State park in Ohio. I submitted the song to Dr. Demento thru the mail but never heard back from them.
What do you hope people feel when they sink into your music?
